EDUCATION
Every child in Texas deserves a quality education and equal opportunity to thrive.
Achieving this will require investing in our communities, in our teachers, and in resources for parents. And I will always fight to defend teachers and their hard work nurturing and inspiring our children while laying down the foundations on which they can build the rest of their lives.
In Congress, I will fight for:
Increased funding for K-12 schools in Texas.
Universal Pre-K.
Higher wages for teachers and administrators.
Investments in after school programs that provide additional learning opportunities for children in underserved communities.
And I will always defend our schools against right-wing attempts to interfere with our kids’ education.
Higher Education
As a first-generation college graduate who is still paying off my own student loans, I understand firsthand the barriers to higher education that American families face. For the sake of our communities, our economy, and the millions of Americans with student loan debt, we must work to protect borrowers from student loan policies that take advantage of students attempting to get an education. No one should be forced into a lifetime of debt as the price of a college degree. Congress needs to pass student loan forgiveness policies that can lift Texans out of debt and make it easier to start a family, a business, or contribute to building stronger communities.
We also must ensure that we are providing quality and accessible job training and technical education programs for those who do not wish to pursue college. I will work to promote access to affordable career and technical education to prepare students for a rapidly changing economy.
