ENVIRONMENT

We owe it to our children and our communities to slow the effects of human-caused climate change.

In addition to the clear and present danger of climate change on our coastal communities as sea levels rise, and on the southern part of the US as summers get hotter, climate change has a disparate impact on our communities of color. People of color are more likely to live in polluted areas and face hazards that negatively affect their health outcomes. As a Representative in Congress, I will promote measures to continue expanding Texas’ clean energy economy and will work to protect Dallas residents most affected by climate change. Fighting climate change and its effects on Texans is not only a long-term imperative - it can be a transformational economic opportunity spurring the creation of new jobs and new businesses that can raise wages and stable careers for our communities.

I will:

  • Support continued investment in Texas’ already impressive clean energy economy in order to make it the most innovative and productive in the world. Investing further in clean energy will create new jobs, raise existing wages, and increase our resiliency to the effects of climate change while boosting energy security.

  • Reduce individuals’ and organizations’ barriers to entry in the clean energy economy - investing in job training and CTE programs, making it easier for entrepreneurs to start clean energy businesses, and support research and development efforts that can spur clean energy advances.

  • Invest in cooling centers, emergency resources, and the local organizations that will be increasingly important for Dallas citizens in the years to come as our summers get even hotter.
